Who are we?

Our people are our most important asset of our church. Ste-Genny’s wouldn’t be what we are without them.

Above question Who are we? is addressed to those who have been coming to Ste-Genny’s for many years or who are relatively new. How would you reply if someone, who may be looking for a church, asks you:

  • Can you tell me more about the church community you belong to?
  • Why is it important for you?
  • Is that something for me (us)?

I go every Sunday! I just can’t miss it! Okay, I know, I am the minister there but, really, it truly is “A Church To Come Home To … And Go Forth From”

?Can you tell me more about the church community you belong to?
We were searching for a place where our kids would have age appropriate activities where they would feel welcomed and would have other kids their own ages around them. There is such a short time when kids are open to learning about God and Jesus’ teachings. There are very dedicated volunteers that make room and time for the children in this church.
?Why is it important for you?
Our previous church did not spend any money to finance ways to attract younger people and they left for soccer or other more “fun” activities. Also, there were fewer volunteers to do the work. At Ste-Genny’s, those who work with the children and youth teaches that God is our friend and guide, sometimes in a serious way, sometimes in a silly way. They manage to make discussions and concepts accessible to the younger generation.
?Is that something for me (us)?
Kids don’t like going to church because the message is often presented in an outdated fashion. It is my belief that the religious education that the United Church offers increases our chances for a kinder, more caring and peaceful world. I see other churches closing due to a lack of attendance from younger people but Ste-Genny’s has a vibrant younger community so we’ll be around for a long time, no matter what your age. We are now seeing yesterday’s children coming in to baptise their children. This is a vibrant community.

I agree. When I was first searching for a church, I had no idea which one to choose. Rev. Ian Smith was a big reason why I started to go to Ste-Genny’s and once I started, the congregation made it even easier to want to come. They are so welcoming and their welcome is really heartfelt.

    God bless,

    Leigh

    1) Ste-Genny’s is a family of diverse ethnic backgrounds who gather together weekly to worship God and grow together in faith. We have a wide range of age groups and regular activities to suit everyone’s needs.
    2) Being a part of Ste-Gennys is important to me because the members are not only here to worship together, but also form a large part of my extended family offering suport and encouragement.
    3) The only way to know if Ste-Genny’s will work for you is to attend several Sunday worship services and to participate in the activities which take place through out the year. The more you participate, the more you will feel the love of our extended family.

    God’s Blessings on Everyone
    Donna
